There’s no doubt that we respond to music during exercise.  Look at the floods of iPod wielding runners on your local running path for proof.  Then if you’re still not convinced look to the science.

In a study published in 2009 a group of cyclists found that they performed better (without realizing that they had exerted more effort) with fast paced music.  Basketball players found that they made more free throws when music was there to distract them, and scientists are starting to take the affects of music on exercise very seriously.  Before the next experiment results come out, here are a few track lists organized by type to get you moving.

  • WorkoutMusic.com – This website throws out podcast episodes that range from 135 to 150 BPM.  Each episode is 60 minutes and you can find the tracks free on iTunes.
  • Technosweat – This website lets you choose your playlist and your desired BPM.  Then they speed your song up to your pace and leave it to you to do the running.
