Ok here’s the deal: if you have plantar fasciitis, the number one treatment recommended by both those who’ve cured the condition and doctors is to wear the proper footwear. There are a number of companies that specialize in motion control footwear that someone who suffers from plantar fasciitis can make use of. By far, the most popular type of shoe that actual users recommend are New Balance shoes.

New Balance running shoes offer very good support for the feet when it comes to providing extra support along the heel and arch areas. When you have plantar fasciitis, these areas of the foot are extremely painful when you walk, especially in the morning. Why? Well when you have this condition, you experience pain because there are small tears in the ligaments of your heel and arch area. This “micro tears” will get worse if untreated. The more successful treatments people find is to wear shoes that help to remove some of the pressure from those areas, allowing the foot to heal, in time.

Now I want to make something very clear. Healing plantar fasciiitis is a gradual process. You won’t buy a pair of shoes and find the condition is gone within the week. You are likely going to struggle with the condition anywhere from 2 months to a year (and maybe even longer if you are not treating the condition effectively). Probably not the news you want to hear, but it’s the truth. It’s a pain and a half to treat plantar fasciitis, BUT it can be done. And the right pair of shoes is the best and first step you should take. Now keep in mind that I AM NOT A MEDICAL practitioner — just a guy whose experienced the condition and cured himself through proper footwear.

Now back to New Balance Running Shoes. These are, in my humble opinion, one of the better shoes to wear if you suffer from plantar fasciitis. They are  comfortable, provide excellent support for your heel and arch — an absolute MUST if you have plantar fasciitis, and they are casually stylish. I mean, they are running shoes so don’t expect to wear them at formal functions, but for the daily errands (if you don’t work a suit type of job), they work great. You can even run in them if you are into running, though you should be careful because running can make your condition worse.

If you are looking for a specific recommendation for men’s new balance shoes, here’s my take:

Top Running Shoe Recommendation: New Balance MR993 Running Shoe

New Balance MR 993

These shoes offer good stability, especially for those who have a tendency for their feet to roll inwards as you run/walk. The New Balance 993’s help to correct this motion and ease your fatigue when you run. Plenty of technological features built into the sole help provide advanced crushing and stabilizing when you do anything physical. No matter what running shoe you end up choosing, you want to make sure it’s comfortable and provides very good support for your heel. This is why I recommend New Balance shoes for people who have plantar fasciitis — they are the king of comfort.

Top Hiking Shoe Recommendation: MW977 Walking Shoe

MW977 New Balance

For hiking, walking around a lot, or traveling (if you expect to be doing great walks or hikes), I can’t recommend anything but the MW977 from the New Balance line. These provide phenomenal support for your feet and with them, plantar fasciitis won’t stop you from doing what you love to do.  Keep in mind that these are sort of like hiking boots, so if you want lighter wear, use running shoes. I use these babies when hiking or doing some serious travelling where I’m on my feet in rough areas all the time. So when you think “outdoors” think the MW977 New Balance Walking Shoe.

Men’s Sneakers for Plantar Fasciits: New Balance Men’s MW811 Walking Shoe

For a non-running, non hiking shoe, I personally own a pair of New Balance Men’s MW811 Walking shoes. While I won’t say these are the most “stylish” of sneakers, they get the job done. What they lack in looks, they make up in functionality and comfort. I use these for a day out at the mall or if I have to do a lot of walking and I don’t want to wear jeans.

Here are the best New Balance shoes for women that I’ve found:

Women Running Shoes for Plantar FaciitisNew Balance Women’s WR1123 Running Shoe

I’m not a girl, but I have female friends who’ve had plantar fasciitis and swore by these running shoes. They’ve got a great reputation online — so I recommend these completely for women who are looking for very comfortable running shoes. New Balance doesn’t put money into celebrity endorsements or advertising, they put their money into research and development — and it really shows. These shoes have massively good ratings online and many many many women who have plantar fasciitis have told me they use these as their main shoe.

Hiking/Walking/Outdoors/Gardening Shoes for Plantar Faciitis: New Balance WW749 Outdoor shoe

I know women with plantar fasciitis seem to gravitate to ONLY the running shoe, since you can use it for most “leave the house” situations and still look pretty good. But if you are going to be doing something outdoorsy like gardening, hiking, or you just need more ankle support, I recommend looking at the New Balance WW749 Outdoor shoe. This is kind of a cross between a hiking boot and a shoe. What  women like about it (remember, I’m not a girl here, I’m taking these recommendations from other women I’ve talked to about the subject) is that they are not too “clunky” as hiking boots tend to be. So best of both worlds: more durability and ankle support of the hiking boot and they are light. And of course, they offer good heel and arch support for plantar fasciitis.

Casual Sneakers for Plantar Fasciitis: New Balance Womens WA800 Sneaker

A bit of a disclaimer here. If you have plantar fasciitis, it’s a good idea to give your heel and arch as much padding and support as possible. That means you need to limit yourself to running shoe and walking shoe types. The casual sneaker doesn’t offer as much support as both. But well, it sometimes gets a bit boring wearing running shoes day in and day out. For the occasional break and to pump up your style ladies, I recommend the New Balance Womens WA800 Sneaker. They look great, are super light, and still provide a decent amount of support. I would say though, don’t make these your “to go” shoes but rather use them occasionally with a good pair of running shoes with more support.
